Ford Emblems?

Does anyone know how to take the color off the Ford emblems on the side of the trucks instead of paying $50 to $75 for new emblems?

I would like to make mine all chrome without possibly destroying them. Has anyone done this?

I have heard of using acetone, fingernail polish remover, but I'm not sure how well it works.

Ascetone will work fine, just tape around the emblem to keep it off the paint. The emblems on our trucks ('05+) have particularly cheesy paint on them. I accidentally removed some paint from my driver's door emblem with a pressure washer, and then decided to blow the rest of it off so it didn't look stupid.

I know for sure that acetone works great for doing this. Just make sure you tape off the paint real good so no acetone gets on it. Acetone and a light bristle toothbrush work the best.It takes a little time but the results are well worth it. Oh yeah....don't put the toothbrush back in the bathroom after you're done!! Good luck and show us the results.

what about using denatured alcohol? it may work too. i know it will take overspray off of chrome bumpers. that happened to me a while back and it worked wonders.
