Tailgate assist?

I thought I read somewhere on here that you could put tailgate assist on an 03-07 without actually changing to an 08-10 tailgate. I would like to have assist but don't want to do tailgate swap. I can't find anything on it now though so maybe I was dreaming.

They should work fine on an older tailgate.
