Painting mirrors
I was looking to get some feed back on a idea i had. i want to paint my mirror caps. Right now they are the black textured ones, but my truck is also black. i thought about having them painted to match the trim along the bottom of my truck. I have a pic of my truck in my sig. Thoughts???

I don't know about that idea. I think they would look like were color matched for a silver truck. It would not look right. That is my opinion though....

from personal exp ive found it a REAL pain to get paint to stay ont he textured parts. we paint some of those fender flares for a guys duramax and they were textured. it was like 2 or 3 years ago and the paint is starting to come bak off. u have to prime the hell out of watever is textured to cover all the texture in the part so that means layering primer on it and then sanding it smooth.
if u decide to do it make sure either u or the body shop that does it will use some sort of adhesion promoter to help the paint stick tot he plastic textured mirror. |

its alot of work but it is just like paining a dash... and if your tires stick out at all its just going to get blasted off.
like stated above it needs to be sanded. but befor the paint or primer goes on you want the plastic to be as smooth as possible. but even with a 400 grt paper you will have all the(micro) scratched up surface area in the world for your primer to adhere i would suggest an epoxy/acrylic base paint, GL. |

believe it or not but b4 we got adhesion stuff we sanded plastic (non textured bumpers) with 400 so the paint would hav somthing to stick to... they would come bak with the paint coming off of them and i could put it on a the bumper stand and blow it off wiht the air hose. as it came off u could see the scratch u put in ithe bumper with the paper and u coul se the scrath imprinted in the paint that got blown off. it jus doesnt stick. plastic sux. we havnt had one yet come bak since we started using this adhesion stuff, and u only hav to sand it with 600, instead of 400. |

I'm wanting to get my entire mirrors painted. Should I just tell my local paint shop to use adhesion promoter?
They quoted me $325 to paint all the door handles, tailgate handle, and mirrors. |

does that price include them taking them off/out? if so thats a hell of a deal. |
