Rear shocks lower mounting location

Why do I see most trucks that are lifted have the rear shock lower mounting locations on the rear of the axle...instead of the stock setup one forward of the rear axle and one behind the axle? Is this a better setup? Is it easy to do? I'm planning on putting on my 4" lift and have Bilstein 5100's to put on...should I change my mounts?

All depends on what year sd you have. I have had them mounted both ways and have noticed no difference.

i think that with them mounted on either side its supposed to help with axle wrap. when you typically see setups on the rear of the axle they will have traction bars as well
