Can anyone out there give me an honest answer defining the difference between MOOG, Parts Master, Duralast and any other brand out there that makes steering/suspension parts? I've always used MOOG in the past and know that have the best warranty out there, but with money becoming tight around here, I need to consider other options regarding my upper & lower ball joints, the rods and ends. Thanks.
I did not have good luck with MOOG on my 6.0, I replaced a good portion of my ball joints and steering components and my moog drag link failed 6 months later with only 35in tires. My previous roommate installed moog ball joints on his 2000 dodge 2500 and had the left side fail within a year. I know I installed them correctly and it was a first I saw MOOG fail that quickly. I needed the part fast and moog wasn't locally available and I went with a Napa brand because it was like $20 more than moog and about a week faster. lasted over 30k miles no issues but truck was sold after that.
personally I wouldn't use the cheaper brand but if money is tight pick the middle price. a small compromise on both ends. I could of gotten a lemon from moog but too me their quality went down some in the last few years. It also got surface rust after the first big rain... The paint looked great when I pulled it out of the box and the next week BOOM! looked like she spent the winter on the east coast.
The Ford stuff is usually around the same price as the Moog.
The ball joints will require axle removal on a 4WD, meaning the expensive hub seals will need to be replaced again as well. I'd say at least try to stay to stay with the nicer stuff for ball joints IMO. The tie rods aren't nearly as bad to change again later if $$ is tight.
true, I agree. Also bad ball joints can eat up tires fast, so where you may be saving a dollar to spend ten sort of thing. :twocents:
