A -12mm offset on a 9" rim is equal to a 4.5"" backspace. Thats ideal for 99-04's but not '05+. A 4.5" BS on your truck will cause the wheels to stick out too far. Heres a good chart for picking out wheel widths and the right BS.

thank you for the reply... so what would be the most correct rim size for me to go with on my truck?... ive got a good concept of the math formula but all those numbers tend to make my head hurt a lil...i really like the stock rim size now.. just want new rims...

'05+ and newer SD's came with a 6" backspace so you want to stay in that range if all you want is new wheels but the same look. Look for wheels that have either a 6" backspace or +25 mm offset. That will keep the fitment like stock.
Edit: Thats on a 9" wide wheel. |
