Question Lariat instrument cluster in 2006

If I want the temp/direction/etc. in my XLT, is it as simple as replacing the instrument cluster, or is there more involved. I was looking at it two ways:
option a: Replace center piece of guage electronics with Lariat electronics, fool it into thinking it's a lariat.
option b: Get a temp and direction overhead piece from a 2004 Lariat with a sunroof and replace mine with the one mentioned.
I personally think option b would be pretty sweet considering it's a "heads up" approach and no 2006s have it up there. Is it possible to do what I'm considering? Thanks as always!

ive installed kits in windstars and expeditions before, but im not sure it they are available for superduties, but i think they are. the kit, from ford, is the mirror and compass....with all the wiring and sensors to add it along with the instruction sheet. does not take all that long, and is pretty simple as long as you have a basic understanding of 12v wiring.

Changing that climate control to the Automatic Climate Control in the Lariat Luxury Package would be a royal PITA IMHO. The wiring for the overhead might be there, probably is, you may have to peek. If not, I'll bet you have to get the harness that plugs in at the passenger kick panel and works up through the A pillar. You can order the harness with or without cab lights if you don't have cab lights on your truck and want to add them.

you hit the nail on the head......i dont even want to imagine what a nighmare dealing with the automatic temp controll would be ........the compass and temp would be easy since in the ford built aftermarket package...they are just displayed in the replacement mirror...but the other features i dont even want to get into explaining the complexity.......you would be better off buying a new truck IMO......Marc
