Voltage loss checking

How do you check for a voltage drain with a multi meter using the two grounds from the batteries? Do you disconnect both then test with one or do you you just test it with one of the grounds removed? What is an acceptable drain?
Many thanks in advance for the help.

good question..... ANYONE?

Figured it out that you need to disconnect both and bridge one with the meter. BTW it was the gauge cluster causing the draw.
