Replace factory head unit

Kinda funny story, I bought into a 04 with the original stereo unit. and the first cold morning I started off on my day, turned on the radio and the volume was kinda loud, so I tried to turn it down and the volume pegged to the max! WTH? so I fiddled and it just stayed there so shut it off and after the cab warmed up it returned to normal.. also it wanted to keep two of my cd's just didn't want to eject..

So I'm in the market for a new one but I'm looking for a nice one with all the features we can expect from the modern age! Maybe one that might have the potential to display vital statistics?

Do you have any suggestions for an UP-GRADE replacement?

Basically looking for brand names and possibly model numbers? Thanks for looking!

The type of Head Unit (HU) you get to monitor vitals is going to depend on your choice of phone. The two top apps are Torque for the Android and Dash Boss for iOS. Most of the newer HUs come in one flavor or another. I personally am looking for an Android model that has bluetooth so that I can tie it in with my Torque app. I do not know much about Dash Boss as I've never owned an Apple product. There are plenty of units out on Ebay and some of those companies are the manufacturer for some of the big names or if Ebay doesn't suit you, you could try Crutchfield or Sonic Electronix.

You may want to just add a Bluetooth/phone device if your volume still works.

You will need a ground loop isolator

Amazon.com: PAC Ground Loop Isolator for 3.5 MM Applications: Automotive Amazon.com: PAC Ground Loop Isolator for 3.5 MM Applications: Automotive

a double female adapter

Amazon.com : C2G / Cables to Go 03170 3.5mm Stereo Coupler Female/Female : Electronics Cable Connectors : Electronics Amazon.com : C2G / Cables to Go 03170 3.5mm Stereo Coupler Female/Female : Electronics Cable Connectors : Electronics

and the wiring adapter. I am not 100% sure this is the right one for your truck

Amazon.com: PIE FRDN-AUX 1998-up Ford Auxiliary Input Converter: Car Electronics Amazon.com: PIE FRDN-AUX 1998-up Ford Auxiliary Input Converter: Car Electronics

an RCA adapter

Amazon.com : Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug, 2-RCA Plugs (6 feet) : Electronics Amazon.com : Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug, 2-RCA Plugs (6 feet) : Electronics

and tools

Amazon.com: Advanced Tool Design Model ATD-5621 Ford Radio Remover Tool: Automotive Amazon.com: Advanced Tool Design Model ATD-5621 Ford Radio Remover Tool: Automotive

About $120 to do this and your smart phone will work for music and phone.

Easy install but you will have to run power possibly to the adapter in the back of the stereo.

CD changer repair about $80 on ebay.
