Intergrated Brake Control

ok so here it is and I'll try as hard as I can to make it as clear as I can.

I'm trying to figure out how to use the Intergrated Brake Control in my 06.
I have a B&W goosneck hitch in the bed and when I hook up our brand new trailer and try to set the brakes in the truck it gives me the "trailer not connected" signal.

Because I dont have the right style of plug-in in the bed of my truck I tried using the plug-in on my bumper. The lights and everything work except for the brakes. Is this because I dont have the trailer plugged into the bed plug? Does only the plug in the bed give you brake power to the trailer?

I'm just confused as to why this wont work. If I go out and buy an adapter for the plug-in in the bed of my truck will the brakes work then?

Thanks for the help

any luck figuring this out?

I have a 7 prong on my bumper and an aftermarket brake controller. Something isn't making the connection between the brake controller and the plug socket on the back of the truck. I haven't gone digging for it yet, but you should be able to get brakes from the 7 prong on the bumper, if you can't somethings up.
