overhead mpg display

Hello, everyone
I just bought a 2004 Ford f350 6.0 and so far it has been great. The only problem that I have had with it is that the overhead mpg/ distance until empty display doesn't work properly. It is able to accurately tell the outside air temperature and the direction of travel but it cannot tell me my mpg and distance until empty accurately. For example, whenever I refuel it says that I only have 88 miles until empty. As I continue to drive it does count down the miles as it should but it starts counting from 88 miles until empty. It also states that I only get around 8 mpg and I really don't think that is correct!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Are you refueling while running? If so, it won't work. Have to turn off, turn on to reset it.
Even then, the computers are known for not giving correct mileage, ever.
I bet the prev. owner towed a lot. The comp. keeps all data and creates an average from a lot of data. So if you were to reset it, it would reflect your driving.

I have currently been refueling while running but after I get home again and shut it off it should still reset the next time that I start it right??
