Installing an aftermarket double DIN head unit??

I want to get the new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit, but I have never done a head unit on an F-250. Any tips or write ups on the removal and install?

2005 Dark Blue F-250 Harley Davidson 4x4. SCT Livewire TS, 4" Silverline TBE, Sinister intake elbow, Riff Raff turbo boots, Blue spring, 6.4 banjo bolts, Sinister coolant filter, Fleetguard OAT, IPR EGR delete, ARP studs.

1998 Dodge Viper GTS. Silver/Blue stripes 1 of 21: Corsa exhaust, high flow cats, K&N filters, smooth tubes

Install is super easy. To make things easy on yourself, get the dash kit and wire harness if you haven't already, it's about a $20-$30 investment that is well worth it. You just splice the wires from your new radio's wire harness into the wire harness that you bought (match the colors) you can use crimp connectors or solder them together. To remove your stock radio, you're going to remove the dash bezel (big piece that goes around the radio/ac controls/gauges) unbolt the old radio, unplug it. Then simply slide in your dash kit, bolt it in and then plug in the new radio and slide it in the put it all back together. It can easily be done in an hour or less.

Yeah, definitely get yourself the double DIN trim kit and harness. Will make your job a piece of cake.

You should be able to get both for <$20 (Ebay)... more if you want it sooner.

Match the wires on the harness stub with your Pioneer harness (color for color). Solder and shrink the connections. Plug and play!

Makes it a piece of cake if at some point down the road you want to change head units, or put a stocker back in when you sell the truck.

While you're in there, get your self a Panavise 751072005 and bolt it in too... gives you a nice spot to mount your iWahtever, GPS, AMPS phone handset, etc.

you could even purchase harnesses that are plug and play, and not even need to splice a wire.
