What controls steering wheel controls

Okay so, on the 03+ excursions and 05+ superduties that have steering wheel controls for the radio, what does the actual controlling of the radio? When you push the volume or mode button on the steering wheel, where does that signal go?

My truck didn't come with steering wheel controls, so I'm wondering if I could add them for the radio controls, I already know that, for me at least, it's impossible to add AC/Heater controls

Ahh so you want to know if the harness is there on a truck without the wheel controls that I don't know

I do use the heck out of those controls on mine

I had a pioneer and it had an add on remote for the steering wheel it was a thumb controlled remote

wonder if Avic has one ?

Yeah, I've seen the wheel mounted remote. I'd rather have the wheel controls. I'm somebody's done this.

I would feel goofy adding the steering wheel that has all the HVAC options and not be able to use em or were you doing something else

well if you decide to go with the add on unit Trust Me it will become second nature in no time

Ya know the radio harness only has 1 wire for the controls

so if you have it in the harness then Maybe you have a chance of it being as easy as slapping the wheel on and doing the adapter ?

Well, the way it is right now, you can't tell my truck has an aftermarket radio. With the wheel mounted remote it's a dead giveaway.

I need to find a wiring diagram for the 05+ trucks. Looks like I'm off to scour 12volt.com

I have the full electronic manual but it's a PITA to read

I doubt 12volt will have anything besides their basic info

good luck

Yeah, it was basic info over there. I need an actual schematic.
