F-250 alternator replacement
I just got my alternator tested and its showing the voltage regulator is failed. My dashboss is showing about 13.2 volts with new batteries. I just ordered an alternator from bulletproof diesel. I've seen a video of a tool that makes changing the alternator quick by taking the tension off the belt but can't seem to get ahold of the company. Anyone have any tips or know what I can use to avoid pulling everything apart for a simple alternator change? Thanks.

Crawl up on top and straddle the alt. Grab the belt and pull up the slide it off the pulley.

If you got a buddy to help you, you just yank up on the belt and have your helper hold the spring loaded locking tab (its on the belt tensioner) in place (long common screwdriver is good for this) as you release the belt slowly the tensioner will stay in place and then you can remove and replace the alternator.

Half inch breaker bar is basically the same thing as the tool..

Saw a YouTube video on a guy that made a simple tensioner tool that made the alternator replacement an easy one man job.

Yeah, I cant seem to get in touch with the company that made that tool.
700xx, so using a standard 1/2 inch breaker bar should do the same thing? My only concern is its pretty much just going to be me doing the job and I'm trying to find an easy one man method. Does anyone have a picture of what exactly I need to press on for the locking tab? Thanks for all the help. |

Re: F-250 alternator replacement
All I did was pull up on the belt and slide it up and off the alternator, replace alternator, then lift up on belt and slide on. It's pretty simple, of you break of damage the belt it was probably time for a new one anyways.
I didn't really bother around with locking the tensioner since it was just me. Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app |

Or just eat your wheaties, pull the belt and lock the tab yourself. takes about 10 seconds. Makes the whole job easier if you lock the tab.
