Do a writeup on this as I have been wanting to do this to mine even though I have an aftermarket navi in my dash as we speak.

I've purchased a 08 navigation radio to do this same swap. I've researched this a bunch and there isn't a lot of info out there. I know a lot of the trouble concerns the programming of the navigation units, that's why there's so many different part numbers. But the programming determines features, and things like the steering wheel button functions from what I've gathered.
I do not have my radio yet, but plan on documenting the install! |

im deffinitly interested in what you find from what ive found so far all the plugs match up except the antenna wire which is just a simple plug switch out i plug mine in and it makes some sounds in the cd player and then nothing i can pres the volume button and it shows a ford symbole and the time and then goes away and nothing... The only i can come to think of so far is some of the pins in the plug need rearranging. Im going to continue to follow this up and come up with solutions

What did your nav unit come out of, and are the knobs chrome trimmed? The one I'm getting is from an 08 Super Duty, I figured that should give me the closest out of the box programming... I'm not sure on the pin outs, but from what I've read they should be the same, just the nav units have the extra plug for the addition of the Audiophile sub woofer.

mine came out of an 08 sd i saw it working in the truck and then we took it out. its getting some sort of power bc i press the volume button and the ford symble pops up and goes away. so far what ive come up with about the pin positions is a radio has to have to power sources... a constant and an ignition so i know im getting one or the other i just need to find some pinout diagrams

I believe the issue is with the 08-up use the CAN bus system while the 07-older do not use the CAN bus system. I remember reading this when researching this for myself, but I do not recall where I read it. Maybe someone else will chime in...

ok i have talked to a company out of florida about this and the guy above me is correct about the can bus system. He said pretty much in a nut shell the new radio system doesnt have an ignition wire so its not seeing that it has power bc all of it runs through the can bus system which is a memory type thing and said it will not work no way what so ever. but im thinking if i get the plug and get power to the two can bus wires and loop it to make it think its connected it might work. anyone who knows a little more about wiring and electrical chime in

2008 Ford NAV system in my 2005 F-350! - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
Have a look at this thread, just ran across it doing more research. Some good info in it!! Seems his radio wasn't configured at all, and he had to connect it to the can-bus system via the trailer brake controller in order for the dealer to program it via the OBD port. Seems he just had them program it using an 08 VIN equipped with nav. Otherwise everything worked fine from what I gather. There's several pinout diagrams posted as well. One question I have, does your nav unit have chrome trimmed knobs? |
