battery light
Have a 2005 6.0 with 73K on it, a trouble free truck. No extra electronics/lights, etc. Frequently I will look down at the dash and the battery light will be on, then it will cut off after a few minutes, then perhaps come back on. Pretty random, doesn't correspond to anything I can figure.
Dying battery? Dying alternator? Thanks for any help. |

Don't know if I can be of help but when my alternator went out me battery light never came on. Then after the new alternator was put on the battery light would come on like u described randomly few min at a time. They put another new one on and no light. He said sometimes the sensor on the alternator doesn't work properly.

Check your battery voltage first, should be 12.3 volts or so with the truck off.
Make sure the battery cables are disconnected before you check them, so you can see each battery's voltage. If those check out, your alternator is staring to go bad. Replace it with a Motorcraft or DC Power alternator only. Do not take it to the chain autopart stores, their alternators are bad. Don't even waste your time. Good Luck!
