Remote start problems

I have a 2005 F250 Diesel and I have the Ford factory remote start unit installed by Ford's exclusive installer in the area. My problem is the 15 amp fuse in the module keeps popping during cranking. I have been back 4 times and each time is it supposidly fixed. They have installed 3 ignition relays, then they installed a relay to trigger the 3 other relays--all with the same result. After sitting overnight and trying to remote start it the motor cranks for a second then the fuse blows and the alarm horn goes crazy until I disarm the system with the remote. The tech swears the fuse is for the ignition, but I think the extra power the starter needs blows the fuse. Anybody else ever had this issue and know what needs to be done. Any possible help would be greatly appreciated. Tomorrow I go back again and tell them to put a starter relay in it....at this point why not???

When I hooked mine up(after market CrimeStopper), I had to have the glow plug detection set to the right polarity. It wasn't at first and would blow fuses. And I think toasted my glow plug relay.

Could be the same, if you have to let it get cold to blow it.

I don't think you problem is because of current draw from the starter, that all happpens under the hood, not directly through the alarm.

If the alarm is going off when the remote start fails, then it is installed incorrectly. The truck starting by remote or not starting by remote, should have no impact on the alarm triggering. On some alarm systems, you have to use a diode to inhibit ignition feedback during the cranking phase of the remote start. Audiovox (Prestige) are really bad about this. Do you happen to know what brand the remote start is?

The alarm is a Ford factory unit that gets installed by an outside vendor. When the fuse in the remote start blows I believe it is part of the ignition circuit of the alarm so when it loses power it sets the alarm off. It is tied directly into the vehicle alarm system. Unfortunatley it is installed much differently that an aftermarket piece.

As for why I believe it blows the fuse when cold is because the starter draws more power to crank the engine over when it has been sitting overnight to get fully cold.

Glow plug detection--interesting thought but the system waits for a full minute before it attempts to start the truck no matter if the glow plug light stays on for 15 seconds or 2 seconds the unit still waits a minute.

I would take it back, and ask them to install it correctly. Thew glow plug thing obviously is wrong, they are useing a pre-set delay of one min. instaed of tagging the WTS wire like your supposed to.

The amount of current used to start your truck, be it more or less when it is cold, is not drawn through the alarm itself so I really don't think that is why. If it were that simple, installing a higher amp fuse would cure the problem. If they are chunking relays at it, they are going about it entirely wrong.

Look on the back of the remote, and see if there is any manf. info. just out of curiosity.

The back of the remote states Ford Motor Company with a factory Ford part number. I was told that the one minute glow plug timer is preset from Ford and connot be changed.

i was not aware that ford had it's own remote start, but it seems to me that if it was a factory option, the dealer would be installing it. i don't see why they would sub it out to a different shop if it was indeed a ford part.
you say it has a ford part number so now i'm not so sure..

anyway i have an aftermarket alarm with remote strart that came with a LCD pager remote and many options. It can be programmed with either one of several preset times for glow plug before cranking, or it can be tapped into the "wait to start" circuit and will automatically start when the light goes out ( i have this option set ) , i paid 130 bucks on ebay.
it also has an idle down funtion so you can "turbo time" the vehicle and it will either shut off after a settable predertimned time, or you can turn it off with the remote.
this is handy because i can set this to let the truck idle (keep a/c running etc) while i go into a store for a minute, and i have the keys and the truck is locked with the alarm armed. if someone were to somehow get in, the truck will shut off as soon as someone touches the brake pedal.
