Is an antenna adapter needed on an 07 F250 when installing a new head unit?

What is that for? I didnt use an adapter on my AVIC-Z120BT I put in.

07's and up (and some 06's i think) dont have the standard Motorola type antenna plug behind the oem radio and require an adapter for an aftermarket radio.
