Lesson learned the hard way
Was putting a tap in to a hot wire behind the dash. While squeezing down on the tap in my pliers bumped the chassis for my Alpine head unit.
Replaced the fuse and the radio still wouldn't work, put back in my factory unit and it did work. But now I've lost my Ipod connectivity and my back up camera screen. So while working behind your dash on a hot wire be sure to unhook the negatives on your batteries, or unground anything that you don't want to fry. |

If it's a decent unit, Alpine dose repairs for a fixed price. IIRC it's about $120 for a head unit.

Seems to be done. Hook it up to power and it won't even beep.
I'll have to check on the Alpine repair shop. Of course for the price I paid for that one I can now get one with a larger screen and navigation or DVD. Really, I'm just glad it was the radio I bumped and not the AC control unit. I can live without tunes, not without heat! Last edited by War Eagle B; 01-18-2011 at 06:36 AM. |
