Angry no headlights

The other night i was headed home and went to switch from brights to low beams and wam no headlights. Not even brights. Luckily i ran my big off road lights all the way home making alot of people mad in the process. I checked bulbs and even switched them out with others. Checked all fuses. All were good. After awhile of screwing with the multifunction switch i finally got brights but no low beams. My question is could the wires come loose in the switch and if so how much of a painis it to change it. Im really not big on the idea pully the steering wheel and everything apart.

Same thing happened on my F-150. The turn signal switch wears out over time. Easy to replace only a few screws.

Anybody have a write up on how to do it? It kinda worries me on taking the steering column apart.
