Trailer Brake Controllers

Forgive me if I missed this as I did a search.

I need to put a trailer brake controller on my '03 6.0L for a tandem axle bumper-pull three horse slant horse trailer (steel trailer). I am green green green when it comes to electric brakes. My question is there one particular controller that is better than another? Would one type of controller fit my application better than another?

I have a brake mate mt but that's because that's all Autozone had and i needed on ASAP. But i have no complaints it gets the job done. I think i paid about 50.00 for it but that was about 5 yrs ago. Maybe somebody else can give you some more info.

to the .org! I personally use a Prodigy brake controller because my truck didn't come with the integrated controller. It's the best and the one I have in my wife's truck as well.

I have a Journey HD. Notice I didn't say use. Not because I don't like it but because I haven't pulled a trailer yet that required it. Navy willing I will be pulling a trailer this summer that will need it. It looks nice under the dash though.

I have a Reese, no problems, but I hear Prodigy is the way to go.

I was looking at the Prodigy's on-line when I should have been working the other day. They sure do look neat. I'm getting the vibe that it dosen't really mater what brand to go with... they all activate trailer brakes.

I have two screw holes under the little cubby hole thing in the dash that I'm betting are from the previous owners controller. I think that I'll use a Prodigy (more because they look cool) as long as I can find one that will plug and play. I refuse to tap into the stock wiring.

My opinion

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy. It was free, I got it out of a trade in. But even if I hadnt got it for free thats what I would have got. I believe they are the best. They are pendelum activated and that is as accurate as you can get outside of the built in system in the newer fords.
