AVIC USER AND ALL NAV USER. GOT SOME ?
OK. I installed my avic D3 last week. simple install! for anyone on the fence about doing it your self, do it! its not as hard as it appears!
now for the question! For all you you with Nav H/U's do you double boot your H/U when you start your car? i noticed that when i go to heat my glow plugs the H/U will boot up. when the glow plugs are ready i start the truck and as a result, the H/U has to reboot again! I have tried turning the unit off before i turn the truck off, but the unit boots up automatically so that doesn't work is there a way to delay the H/U from turning on so you can avoid double boot ups when starting your truck? i searched the avic411 boards, but there are very little diesel users so its hard to find info. any ideas!?!? so far this is all i have found AVIC411.com • View topic - Power Delay for Diesel Vehicles |

I've had my avic-D3 in for a couple years now and it has never bothered it, it's just annoying but you get used to it.
You could splice into the ignition wire (pink) for the stereo and add a switch, just leave the switch off until you start the engine! |

I've wondered if a capacitor would work. would it store enough energy to last for the start. The radio would not cut off then.

The double boot doesn't hurt anything. I have a Z2 in my truck, and it's been doing it for years with no problem, as has my cousin's Z1 and my uncle's D3.
If it really bothers you, pick up one of these off ebay: http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductD...ons_010505.pdf They're 20 bucks or so. You just need to program the module for delayed on. 20 seconds or so should cover the glow plug cycle time even in the winter. One piece of advice: program the module on a workbench or table using a power supply or small battery. They're a biatch to get programmed once they're stuck back in the dash. Or you could just hook the switched wire to an upfitter and take the easy way out. LOL |
