Battery Light
So a while back i gave my buddy a jump. His 2002 7.3 was deader than dead. Soon after that day I noticed my truck was getting harder and harder to start. Eventually my battery ligth came on. My Batts were dead. I took my batts and alt to get checked. The alt was only putting out like 9.3 volts but ths batts were good. so they charged them for me. I replaced the alt but the batt light was still on. Up untill today the batt light has been on intermitantly. If i leave the truck for more than 3-4 days it wont start. Finally this morn i went out to start it and it wouldnt start (i had just driven it the day before). i replaced both batteries today and it starts fine but the batt light is still on. I have no clue where to begin...
Cliff notes: 2 month old alt and 2 new batteries.... battery light still on. thanks in advance guys... |

Mine was doing the same and was under warranty. Dealer replaced both batteries and the alternator and all is fine now.I discovered weak batteries after taking the truck to a Interstate Battery store and they load tested the batteries for free. I wish I could find out what was draining them but for now everything seems to be ok. Maybe someone will chime in and give us some type of direction.

If you get (or borrow) a battery tester and put it inline on your positive battery terminal it should show you if you have a draw on your batteries. A small draw is normal, but if there is a 12 volt draw then start pulling fuses until the draw goes away. You might be able to narrow it down with that.

I keep my SCT livewire connected over night...think this could cause enough draw to kill after 4-5 dasy of sitting?
I just can figure out my Batt light. My SCT sayins the alt is putting out 14v. It never puts outs less than 13v |
