Cheaper and simplier to get an aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller.

The simple answer is yes, he can have them installed, but I'd go with the other's on this one. I've priced the factory controller out a bit above $500 and that's before labor to install. The Tekonsha Prodigy (best unit there is, IMO) is about $160 before labor.

Love my factory...but it was there already and it has limits..I would steer them to an aftermarket...takes no time to install and one heck of a lot easier prolly!

yeah...he has the aftermarket one...but he likes the clean lines of the factory. He has a plug back behind the cubbt hole that is not for the brake module. i thought it would be more plug-n-play. If someone has doe it before I would be interested in the step-up for him.
Thanks

If he really wants to do it, find a wrecked 05-07 and rob everything you need out of the donner truck.

Dunno if this will help at all, but here is the installation directions off of the Ford Body Builders website:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/Q133.pdf

EDIT: Dumb me...that was for the upfitter switches, don't know what I was thinking! DOH!

It is possible, but it will be pricey. Got this from Dieselmann's site:

Installing TowCommand on 05-07 F-Series:
There is now a kit available to install TowCommand trailer braking system on trucks that were not originally equiped at the factory. For diesel and all dual rear wheel applications use kit 5C3Z-19H332-BA. For gasoline trucks with single rear wheels use kit 5C3Z-19H332-AA. Broadcast Message 4065, 4643, 4937, 5883. If a TowCommand brake controller is dealer installed on an 05 truck, it may not work correctly unless a master cylinder with a brake pressure transducer is installed, and the instrument cluster reconfigured to recognize the TowCommand. Broadcast Message 4642, 4928.

My only caution would be to make sure he knows what he's getting in to. The list price from Ford is over $500 for the controller and over $100 for the upfitter switches. I'm not sure how much for the master cylinder work and the labor.
