I got my sirius hooked up by the dealer, it was a $350 unit that is hooked up to the "AUX" button on the stock HU, no little reciever mounted to the windshield, reciever is behind rear seat, display and info shows up on HU screen. Very clean install, no probs w/ satelite.

If you want to use the built in FM modulator, install the antenna(magnet mount on the roof) as close to the Stereo antenna as possible. (Read, top of cab, just above the glass on the passenger side.) The FM Modulator sends the signal from the actual unit, back through the recieve antenna and broadcasts a signal at a very low wattage to be recieved by your stock antenna. (Does that make sense???)

I have my ant. at the back of the roof on a cc, and the only time I have a problem is going through tunnels, and if I'm right beside a tall building that blocks the sat. signal. Other than that it works great.

I am also not impressed with the FM modulator, I have a lot of static and the sound quality is not good. I would like to hook mine into the stock head unit using the AUX button also but I dont know how you would do it.

i was thinking to that if u unhook the stock antenasomewhere under the dash the sirius radio will pick up a better signal because there would be all dead air space with no reception..u wouldnt have the stock radio stations but i think it might be an option.

Problem with this scenario is that the only way you can hook up these Sirius receivers is through the FM modulator. The one inside these units is cheap and produces a very weak signal. You can pick up an exterior FM modulator from Best Buy for about $30. Installation is easy, you just pull apart your dash, pull out your head unit, unplug the antenna lead, insert the modulator antenna lead in the head unit and insert the antenna lead into the modulator. Then button everything back up. Your modulator has another lead that plugs directly into your Sportster receiver. If you want true integration (and much better quality), you need to purchase the $99 receiver, which usually requires installation by a professional, similar to what BigGreen did.

On another note, the satellite antenna on the roof has nothing to do with the modulation signal from the Sirius unit. It doesn't matter how close you put it to the stereo antenna, it won't improve your reception.
