Tranny temp pegged

Tranny temp on factory guage pegged to hot, check gauge lamp is on, and tow/haul light flashing. I checked fluid and it is just warm to touch. From reading past questions, i believe i have a tranny temp sender that needs replaced. My question is where is it located? Do you have to drop the pan? any help would be great...

Not sure myself either. The factory gauges are highly inaccurate. I recomend getting an aftermarket tranny temp gauge.

my friend took his in for a problem like that. a sensor went bad and his stock guage would do that. wow and i just read the rest of your post lol. my bad. im not exactly sure where the temp sensor is. on some trannys they are on the valve body but i havent looked at a 5r110. i guess this is just a bump.

Just an update for anyone that is looking for the same info.. You have to drop the pan to get to sensor...Very easy replacement.. My fluid was flushed and replaced less than 10k before, so i reused it.. changed the filter as long as the pan was off... Total cost was about 130 bucks... Sensor was 79, filter 44 from Ford.... Problem is gone...

I had the exact same problem as Buck. Dropped the pan and replaced the sensor (super easy fix). $79 for the sensor, changed the fluid and filter while I was in there for a grand total of $200. No more issues...knock on wood!
