possible transmission problem?
I have a 2003 f-250 6.0 4x4 automatic. When the transmission is cold and I drive at a steady speed, say around 65 on the highway, my truck starts jerking. Although, once the truck warms up, it is fine.

bump bump bump..having same problems. pan was leaking....flushed and changed gasket and filters, problem came right back. it shutters when tranny is cold and when i get in top gear it really starts to shutter. when the tranny warms up it stops, but it still doesnt shift as smooth as it use to. im thinking its the convertor would like to hear opinions before i take it in to dealer. I am having the same kinda issue. Let the truck warm up for about 5 minutes. start driving and get on the freeway. It is rough the entire time. The worst is when I am in top gear on the freeway trying to accelerate. It shakes so bad it feels like the truck is falling apart. I have a 05 F350. I have a feeling it might be because of the tune... any thoughts on this? |

same crap
I have the same trouble and I noticed it ever since i did a couple hard burnouts and three passes at the track. I kind of thought it was locking the tc. way more than before and if it locked right away when you first take off then any hiccups of the engine not being fully warmed up is sent directly threw the tranny instead of being absorbed in the tc.

I too am having these issues, except mine have been going on for MONTHS. I've posted numerous threads on almost every ford diesel site out there and haven't had any luck. My truck has spent over one full month at the dealer on three separate occasions with the programmer sitting in it for them to play with, and they didn't fix anything. I'm stuck fixing this myself! We need to resolve this! Mine started doing it randomly, about one month after headstud job (dealer installed) and this is a reman tranny after a torque converter blew apart on the last one. It didn't happen right away, but it gradually came about. Mine does this with both extreme street and extreme race, so it doesn't seem like a TC problem. However when on stock, it barely does it, if at all. Its only SLIGHTLY noticeable, only cause I drive it every day. What on earth is this! |

In fact mine wont even shift at the same RPM's anymore. If I mat it, and hold it wide open, sometimes it shifts at 3100rpms, sometimes 3300rpms sometimes 3600 rpms, never the same and always early. My rev limit is set at 4050rpms, and I can not run it to the rev limiter anymore. My original tranny in this truck and before the headstuds, I could always go to the rev limit. |

Sounds like you have one (or several) weak solenoids. It is my EXACT problem and is made worse with the tuning. Mine isn't torque converter lockup I am experiencing as much as the shift solenoids engaging and disengaging. 3rd disengages sometimes so early that I get a pretty bad shift flair. When I tow, it will sometimes slam into gear if I run my tow tune usually after we have been driving for a couple hours and the tranny is good and hot (190* or so). It is definitely shift solenoids, but with it being so difficult to feel in stock form, you won't likely be able to get it fixed under warranty. Talk to your tuner about increasing the line pressure for the shifts where you feel it most.
PS. I worked with DJ (and Vivian) a couple years ago to try to fine tune my shift pressures, but we both ended up getting too busy to finish it. Oh and I haven't spoken to Eric about it yet. Good luck! |
