External Trans Filter

About 10,000 miles ago I changed the interal and external transmission filters in my truck. So today I went back to change the external again but it is extremely tight. I tried using a breaker bar and then carefully an impact wrench but it still won't budge. Any ideas what to do?

You only need to do a little more than hand tight. Just for future reference. There is no need to torque it down that much. It is cast aluminum, Be careful removing it. I would tap around the outside of the o-ring a bit. that might help.

Good luck

I had my friend hold the casting and I had a breaker bar with a four foot pipe and it wouldn't budge. I don't know how it got so tight because I only hand tightened it.

Actually I have used a heating torch to help loosen some things. Double check with someone smarter than me before you try that.

You can also try using a hammer to hit your wrenh. somtimes the jarring action of a hammer blow will loosen stuburn objects.
