I'm in the same boat. That little bugger is stuck! I bought the truck used so I don't really know the maintenance history but when I went to change out that filter, I almost tore the bracket off the frame with a cheater. It did come from an area where they see a lot of snow so corrosion could be the problem. Soaked it in WD-40 and haven't had a chance to try it again.

There is also an inline filter installed installed between the cooler and the cartridge filter in the return line. What's up with that? It has a Ford part number on it. I had a parts guy at the dealer look up the number and they were out but he said it was part of a kit that the dealer is supposed to install when they replace a tranny. Anyone else hear of that one?

There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) about that for the 7.3 trucks. The idea was to catch any contamination from the blowed up trany (friction material from the clutches) that might have accumulated in the cooler before it made it back to the new trany. You might want to check the TSB list.

the hosing is held on with 3 10mm bolts. when i replaced my trans i was flushing my lines so i took the whole thing off.

it was SUPER tight. i put it on the vice and it still wouldnt come off. i then heated it up a little bit and still nothing. i took a utility knife and i ran the tip of the blade around the opening and it came right off.

mine was so tight that it was literally bending the bracket that its held on to while i was trying to remove it

lots of WD40, if not then heat. Tap it, use a breaker bar to get it off. Tap it while you twist it off.

Anybody try a little anti-seize where the parts come together during reassembly? I know there is an o-ring, but once that metal contacts, I bet the anti-seize would help.

Anybody try an impact driver? I'm afraid it would crack the housing. WD-40 isn't doing it. I am thinking of just taking it to Ford and letting them deal with it. It's their stupid filter. That way, it they break it they can buy me a new one....

I wouldn't advise using an impact gun. I would keep spraying it with penetrating lube and then use a breaker bar. Thats how I got mine off. Its really a pain in the rear to do though!
