Transmission Noise
I know you guys discussed this before, I don't want to repeat myself. Sorry if I do; here is the dilemna:
Hi: I have been pulling a fifthwheel for about 2 years (I have F30 2005). And this is the first time I experienced the sound. It sounds as if the fan was running, or something was slipping inside the transmission. I was quite worried since we were in the middle of nowhere, far away from home (In NM but live in Alaska). The dealer assured me it was okay and gave me similar answer: Not to worry but watch it! So I am surmising that these could be the reasons: 1. Fan kicks in as stated in one of the posts. 2. Sometimes tow/haul will kick in as we deccelarate at the top off the hill. My "noise" has been happening when I reached the top the hill, especially if I take the foot off the gas pedal while in tow haul mode. Would anybody have any comments on this phenomena? Have you had a similar experience? My pickup is 2005 F350. Thank you, I would love to know what is happening. AlaskaKid |

I have not heard this problem on my truck ( 2003 F250 with tourqeshift 5 speed, but you may want to call Alaska Transmission and Gear.... They have help me answer several questions. Good luck.... by the way it is a good time to be away from Alaska.... we have had few few sunny days this summer. ...from Eagle River. Have a safe trip!

I was pulling a 8k rv, my auto tranny began to hold high rpms w/o shifting. I would slow down, eventually it would re-engage high (tow haul mode). It sounded like my fan was going crazy, I went to my mechanic who told me the clutch fan was okay. I had the tranny serviced. I hooked on again, same thing. Visited a 'friendly ford' dealer in Springfield Missouri who diagnosed blown head gaskets. Had er studded, no more 'tranny problems'. It was the 'limp mode'.
