Mystery ATF

2005 F350 6.0L PSD Auto. 124k. I have had this truck for about three weeks. This my second diesel but first 6.0L. I am trying to get this thing up to speed. So I have changed the oil (Rotella T-6), Cleaned the EGR, and was moving on the the transmission.
I have been reading the forums and was going to get the Mercon SP or LV but then I was flipping through the Owner's guide and in the back the former owner had been keeping records of his service (I did appreciate that). The regular maintence has been performed (Rebuild at 90k) and then I noticed 96k "transmission added 7 qts of Lucas". From my understanding the Mercon and Lucas doesn't mix. So my question to the veteran PSD owners and service individuals "is;" what approach should I take? Drain and Change the External Filter? Drain, Take the pan off and change both filters? or Take the thing to the dealership have them flush it?

7 qts is alot to just add. Theres supposedly issues with flushing debris around into the clutch packs if you flush it, but if its ony got 34k on a new trans you should be in the clear. These are really good transmissions but anything thats good like that is gonna be sensitive to all the friction modifying stuff. Mercon SP was replaced by Mercon LV (low viscosity) which is different from regular atf. Lucas trans additive probably does wonders on an old turbo 400, but could be doing who knows what to your trans. Either way youre going to have a risk I guess. Ive never had a flush done, but someone with experience might chime in. If its a lucas equivalent of Mercon SP or LV,I wouldnt sweat it, but I dont think they make anything like that, meaning its probably a modifier. Personally I would say that if its got 34k on it then its probably best to flush.
