Tranny went out on 06 F250 Please help

I have an 06 F250 with an automatic transmission. Just put 6500 into the engine (injectors, studs, turbo, etc. etc. etc.) a few months ago.

Today the trans overheated and I felt the heat come up thru the floorboard. According to the dealer it's gone. My questions are:

Ford dealer wants 4K for a rebuilt trans, is it worth it?

What type of transmission do I have? (example 400R or etc.) I searched and can't find it.

Is there a vendor where other users have had success with rebuilds or exchanges?

All help is appreciated. Thanks & God bles.s

You have a 5r110. I think 4 is a fair price.

4K is a fair price, The very lowest I've seen was 3,600 from suncoast. What type of warranty did they talk about?

For a little more, you can get a built trans that will be much stronger.

If Ford rebuilds it, you get a 12 mo/12k me warranty. If you go with a reman, they use to have a 36 mo/100k warranty.

A friend of a friend of mine owns a transmission shop. My original tranny has about 700,000 miles on it. The fluid has never been changed, just topped up when required. The tranny shop owner said he'd rebuild it for $1600. So ya, I'd shop around a bit more. Other places in town quoted me from 2300-3200. It's a 5r110 as well.

Ya sounds crazy but he, the previous owner, told me this BEFORE I put a deposit down on the truck. Why would he lie about it? I think he's in his late 60's, owns 5 diesels that do commercial hauling, owned the one I bought since new, etc...

He said, "There are no guarantees if you buy this, it could blow up tomorrow"

I believe him, and it scared me until I found out buddy could rebuild it(tranny) for $1600.
