Torqshift shudders in OD - bad

I have been doing a little research on here. I have the Torqshift trans and I notice when normal driving - when it shifts into the final gear (not on tow/haul) it starts shuddering real bad. If I give a little more fuel - it auto down shifts and the shudder is gone. I've got 143,000 miles on the truck. It's an '03 6.0 4wd.

Today I drove to work in Tow/Haul mode and it never shuddered at all.

Seems my final drive gear is shot.

Any comments?

I bought the truck used - as far as I know the trans has never been serviced. Would flushing the trans help any - any good guesses out there?

I have a mission trip upcoming in March - I need my truck for the 300 mile haul from Chesapeake Beach MD to Bolair WVA and back. I will be hauling roughly an 8000 pound trailer of supplies for the ministry association in WVA.

Does anyone think that if I run in Tow Haul - I would have a problem if my "normal" OD gear is shot - in tow/haul I use a different OD gear?

I need some advise here.

Never been serviced?? That is bad news, the life of a tranny is the fluid. Get er serviced and take a look at whats in the pan. No, take a sample of the fluid and have it analyzed first. If the tranny needs repaired you don't want to waste money on a service. My guess is it needs an r&r but oil analysis will tell

Yeah and don't forget about the external tranny filter, too. Supposed to be changed every 15k...
