Transmission on the way out?

Lately my truck has been acting up when I'm at higher speeds and I go to accelerate. My truck accelerates fine but when I get to 60 or above and my torque converter locks in, when I go to accelerate my exhaust noise gets deeper, my engine boosts up and my truck just starts blowing a bunch of black smoke but it doesn't go anywhere. When I slow down and it downshifts then go again, it works fine. It's been an off and and on problem for the last few weeks. It only happens when I'm at higher speeds and when I see my converter is locked on my cts gauge. Temps are running no higher than 160 and I had my fluid changed about 10,000 miles ago. My fluid does have a burning smell though, but still pinkish color.

What do you guys think is going on? Does this sound like the transmission? I have been wanting to upgrade to a Suncoast or something and maybe mows the time. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like it could just be the vanes on your turbo stuck, Look at the VGT readings and see if there sticking.

I have a fairly new Powermax turbo so I hope that's not it. what should the VGT readings be showing? I have the edge insight cts and it has a VGT duty cycle reading. Is this what I should be looking at and what range should it be at? Thanks for your help.

The way I have read and understood the VGT duty cycle should never stick at 0.25- or 0.84+ when I get on the interstate at 60mph or so and put my foot down the VGT gets stuck at 0.84 and smoke plumes out the exhaust until it resets and then boosts up again. How have you found the powermax as I was considering buying one for my truck. Hope you can get the trans issue sorted!

Without codes or a little more information, I don't think it is the transmission.

Hey guys, finally getting a chance to get back. Over the past few weeks, I have been watching the VGT cycle and I do think that is the issue. When I first start the truck up in the morning, I get a high pitched whistle and the VGT is at 85%. As soon as it starts to drop it goes away. I also noticed that when I do get at upper speeds after accelerating that the VGT will get stuck on 85 and the smoke starts to come and I dont go anywhere. On the interstate it will also get stuck on 15%.

I just purchased a new MTW wheel for my Powermax and will be installing this so I will also check out my VGT selonoid. I'm surprised this has gone out on my Powermax. Thanks for your help.
