Transmission on the way out?
Lately my truck has been acting up when I'm at higher speeds and I go to accelerate. My truck accelerates fine but when I get to 60 or above and my torque converter locks in, when I go to accelerate my exhaust noise gets deeper, my engine boosts up and my truck just starts blowing a bunch of black smoke but it doesn't go anywhere. When I slow down and it downshifts then go again, it works fine. It's been an off and and on problem for the last few weeks. It only happens when I'm at higher speeds and when I see my converter is locked on my cts gauge. Temps are running no higher than 160 and I had my fluid changed about 10,000 miles ago. My fluid does have a burning smell though, but still pinkish color.
What do you guys think is going on? Does this sound like the transmission? I have been wanting to upgrade to a Suncoast or something and maybe mows the time. Thanks for any help.
