Is my trans done

2004 f250 4x4 6.0 161,000 miles auto trans

Drive the truck last night every thing was fine. Go out today and backed out of the drive way. Put it in drive and nothing. Give it gas and feels like and it feels like its in a high gear. It will drive but struggles like its in 5th gear. Fluid level is good. No codes

Well where do I begin...

Every time I put it in D there is a 1-2 second hesitation followed by a thud, When it shifts it always struggles, I upshift occasionally, Rough Shifting, and how I know there is a major issue?

My tow haul light is flashing.

What could be causing all of this.

When was the last time your filters were changed? As in both of them? It could be as simple as a sticky solenoid. Given the you reported the fluid is good, I'd say this may be it. I recommend a hot fluid flush and new filters. If it's not hot, then the trans thermostat won't be open.

I don't know when they were last changed to be honest. I was talking to a guy at a transmission shop and I described my problem and he said it sounded serious due to the thud whenever I put it in gear. Also my gas mileage has decreased significantly over the past week because I was running a higher RPM than normal and my truck was acting as if it were under a load. I have a lag in power now and my gas mileage is decreased.
