trans problem?

when my trans is cold it shifts really hard..and i have a stop light 1.4 from my house and every morning it catches me on red, and when i go to stop i can feel it down shift kinda hard. almost like the tow/haul mode ison but it's not. is this normal or do i have a problem?

the hard down shift is the same thing my expedition started doing about 2 months before i lost 2nd gear totally. so it's got me nervous.

thanks for any info
Mark
