Stuck filter canister

I cant seem to get the canister holding the external trans filter off. I tried a breaker bar but didnt go too crazy with it for fear of the whole assembly twisting off. I just picked up a air impact gun and even it didnt work. Anyone have any tricks?

Ok I am impatient and just tried a longer breaker bar, the bracket that holds the whole assembly started to bend as I feared..... Also a small piece of the bolt shaped end broke off but most of it is still there...

So I tried heating it and ran the impact on it some more and eventually broke off the nut shaped portion on the bottom..... So now I am going to have to replace the canister no matter what. It appeared to be aluminum or maybe magnesium. I am now wondering if I squeezed it with some kind of press if it would crack and break and fall off......

A impact should have taken it off.. I bet it hasnt been changed in a long long time if ever, Or the last owner just put it on way to tight after changing the filter. It looks simple to replace though so thats kinda nice.
