Crap! Now my tranny Issues!

Okey well Just found last week I had a oil leak coming from the vacinity of the Rear main. Not terribly bad but going into shop to be fixed since the truck has 45k miles on it. Well its leaking enough to be on the underside of truck, and leaking on the ground.

Now for a while i have noticed that sometimes if you go to reverse the truck wont go into reverse unless you bump the shifter then it jumps into reverse. I figure just a adjustment or something no big deal. Well out of the blue now at certain times i can put it in reverse and it takes about 3-4 seconds for the truck to jump into reverse (dont have to bump shifter it dont make a difference now, its just a constant delay) and if i take my foot off the brake and let the truck pull itself backwards it starts to creep backwards and does like a lunge/surge then its fine. Only makes 1 lunge. Now if i put my foot on the brake and shift to D there is like a 4 second or more delay and it snaps into gear and kinda Jumps like the idle is too high to be going into gear but the idle is normal and fine. Any ideas? Valve body? Truck drives fine and shifts fine. Only other thing i could remotely begin to link to his problem is in the past i notice about every 2 months ill be driving the truck and the truck just feels like it looses all its power esp when im going along at 50 or so and stomp it. If i pull over and turn truck off and on again the problem is gone for another 2 months or so. Maybe the problem was tranny related somehow all along. Not sure. Anyone? Anyone?

Doug

Sounds like you need a new torq converter. With the torq converter being bad I would have the trans inspected by a trans shop. As the contanimated fluid could have damaged the clutches inside the trans. If your O/D light is flashing you have a transmission trouble code. A transmission shop will have the diagnostic computer to check your trans out. A normal code reader will not read transmission trouble codes.

I am wondering if during your tranny repairs, the techs ever removed and flushed the radiator/trans cooler? (I recently read an article by a tranny engineer that suggests it always be done for a tranny failure.)

#5 is going to take a dump in January. Then I get a reman. In the RO's it says the coolers were replaced or flushed.

Truck

Well ford serviced the tranny 15k miles ago. New fluid and filter. Dont appear to be low, and the light is not flashing. It is fine on the road it just does this in reverse and takes a few seconds to go into drive sometimes, now sometimes it goes into drive with no delay. Could it be something as simple as a linkage adjustment. Im not sure, would this be covered under the 100.00 warranty i have until 2009. This truck is still newish and starting to turn into a redheaded step child.

Nope not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.

Unless he got the extended tranny warranty. Every time you make a claim after bumper to bumper warranty it's a $100.00 deductable. I have the extended warranty and this is how it works for me.

There are multiple causes of delayed engagement. Ford has some computer reprograms (updates, reflash) for these concerns. If that doesen't fix it , i would suspect a solenoid.
