HELP!!Tranny issue

Spent a few hours on Sat afternoon to install a new PML transmission pan and new filter gasket etc. Had two certified mechanics to assist me, took off old pan, gasket and filter and replaced with new filter gasket and pan. Filled with ATF and test drove, everything fine. Went to leave and go home about 15 miles later noticed smell and truck was not shifting right, pulled over and had fluid leaking all over, limped home. Went to friends house and drained fluid, dropped pan again, put another new gasket on thinking I got a bad one, filled back up and test drove, still leaking!!!! Is there something I am overlooking????? Can't call transmisison pan place until monday, but would like to know if there could be a problem with the pan before I start yelling at someone for no reason. My friend said the pan could be warped or uneven, but he wasn't sure either. Different types of gaskets were used and directions for torqueing? the bolts were followed both times exactly as described. So I would not think both gaskets could be bad?? Any info would be great until I get it solved my ride is parked and that is not making me happy.

I had a buddy I work with who had the EXACT same problem on his Dodge gasser. Even though he followed the exact torque spec for the bolts it was too tight and causing it to leak. He put them on under the spec and never had a problem again. Something to try anyway.

untlill you figure out where the leak is coming from for sure its tough to say...... Are you sure you put the right fluid in the trans, its is a VERY special blend of ATF.....

To me the leaking looks like it is more on the sides to the rear of the pan, but I don't know if that is becasue it is being blow back, but the front bolts look clean, and youcan see fluid inbetween the gasket and pan. Yeah I found out that the 6.0 takes the special fluid and it costs $4.80 through Ford and they are the only people to carry it. The local Napa guy tried to sell me Mercron 5 when I checked with them for the SP stuff, but I ordered from Ford, and since I can't get more unless I have it overnighted from the Ford dealer I am a little hesitate to run it for testing purposes. The bolts were only put to 10 foot-pounds tourqe as specified in the directions, which to me seems if I lossen them a little it would be to loose?? Thanks for any input, for such an easy project it sure went south fast, the Diesel power mag guys did one in an article and it didn't seem that hard to me!! Since there is only a few parts I am hoping I just got a bad pan and that will fix it. Thanks again!!!!!

I had the same trouble changing oil in mine. I had put in too much oil. You could have something with the pan, but I would check and double check the oil first. Don't you just love the cheap little dipsticks they put in the now? They sop up the oil in the tube. Check after vehicle has set overnight.
Hope this helps!

I have been busy and just checked my email and saw you guys!! I was told that I had overfilled the transmisson pan and caused the torque convertor to go and some seals etc, got that fixed and still had a few small issues. I am in CA right now visiting my family and dropped the truck off at West Coast diesel. These guys rock!!! They are going through to make sure itsokay and I am getting some new stuff put in!!!! I will let you all know how it turns out!!

GEEZ. Putting in too much fluid WILL NOT cause your torque converter to "go". If that was the case, every trans I've built in the last ten years would be bad. I "overfill" everyone by 1 inch. Preston

i agree with jpz to much fluid wil not cause torque converter failure , will only cause to blow out of the vent until gets down near correct level
