Tranny warm up time???
I was wondering how long it should take the tranny to warm up under normal conditions. Mine seems to warm up really quick. If I start the truck in the morning and let it run for a couple of minutes, the tranny gauge is already starting to show an increase in temp. Thats without any driving yet. At this point, the engine coolant temp gauge hasn't even moved yet. The tranny operates fine as far as I can tell, and the oil gauge never shows it getting too hot, even in stop and go traffic. Anyone have any info on whether I should investigate or not. Thanks in advance. All gauge readings are off of the stock gauges by the way.
Granatelli needs to hurry up with my darn commander. hehe |

The factory tranny gauge is nothing more than an idiot light. If the temp is between 100 and 200 degrees, the factory gauge will read normal. It just doesn't move. By the time my Commander registers anything over 100 degrees the factory gauge is up as far as it ever goes. The tranny doesn't get up to 150 for at least 8-10 miles unless you are pulling a load. The engine actually warms up faster than the tranny, but you can't tell by the POS gauges in the dash. Get yourself some good gauges so you can really know what's up with your truck. |

Ford had a lot of defective trans temp senders . Buy a new one from Ford and take the truck to a tranny shop for service. Ask them if they will will install the new sensor for you while they have the pan off. They should do it for no extra charge.
