gettin' hot
My trouble is that when I tow anything over 5000 #'s, if my tranny shifts down, (to go up hills, or driving into a head wind while towing), if it doesn't shift up within a few minutes, the engine temp gets close to overheating. Trannie temp stays normal, tried using and not using tow/haul mode, but it still does it. Rad not plugged up, no grill inserts, Rad fluid is topped up, any help would be appreciated, before i go to dealer. Truck is a 2005 F-350 cc short box with 71,000 miles, all stock besides AFE filter and zoodad mod.

thats funny i had a strange problem with my 05 a few days ago, i was on the highway at 85 or so then started to here a loud roring noise. look at the tem guage and its climbing and fast slow it down to about 40 and it went back to normal. Never did it again. But to answer the posters question, i would have the system flushed, if its not been done it should be. Also look into a coolant system filter. Dfuser.com is just about the only place i know that has them. Now if that dosent fix it i would look at the fan clutch, and go from there. |

I do not know if I would avoid the dealership on this one. Just make sure to go to one that is mod freindly. And just my opinion...if you are towing you need better gauges than the stock ones. THe stock trans gauge is way off and will only tell you that it is getting hot when it is REALLY hot. Aftermarket gauges are much more accurate. I can see trans temps at 200 degrees on my autometer and the stock gauge will be half way up the temp reading where it normally sits. Having said that just imagine the trans temps you are having when the stock gauge goes just below the red.

I would go with Brant on this one and think it's the fan clutch. Does your fan ever kick in? Trust me, you'd hear it if it did...
