Dad's tranny went
So my dad calls me and proceeds to tell me that his tranny is on it's way out and that he is going to order a re manufactured 5R100 today. It's already on the way here so i can't stop that but if its an easy fix on it i will keep it as a backup for him or I.
His truck has about 120K on it and just recently has put a BullyDog on it. I tried to tell him that SCT was where it's at but he insists on the SOTF tuning. Vehicle is a 2006 F350 CCLB with factory 20's on it. Other than that the truck is stock and it has the Auto 5r100 with the SOTF 4x4 on the dash. What it's doing: When he shifts into reverse it will slip real bad but does allow him to back up slowly. If he puts it into drive it seems to be fine until it tries to go into overdrive. If he shifts it from 1 to 2 to 3 all day it will be fine. When he places it in drive it will be fine until it tries to shift into 5th it will slip and bang a few times, then the tow/haul light will flash and then it will settle in 4th and be fine. but when moving down the interstate it will run at higher RPM's. Does this sound like an easy fix or should he keep the tranny, fix it and eat the 450 core charge? He has returned it to stock and this does not change. He has not been to the dealer to have the code read from the TCM since his Bullydog with read it and im pretty sure my SCT or Torque app wont read it either. Ill sure try this weekend while im there though. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, |

The SOTF is what killed it man, that hurts these transmissions pretty quick. I would say the reman would be fine with a different tune

Sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks.... Anyone know if it would be best to hold on to the tranny and rebuild it or turn it in for the 450.00 core?
