tow haul light flashing check gauge light on and tranny temp gauge all the way to hot

i have a 2004 f350 has 74,000 miles on it well i just bought a bully dog gt tuner 2 days ago been sorta easy on it never go past tow setting when im pulling a trailer but today i was pulling a little weight in tow haul mode and all the sudden the tow haul light started flashing and the temp gauge pegged at the hot mark and check gauge light came on still shifting smooth just stuck in tow haul mode i stopped tried running diagnostics with the tuner it came up with no DTCs and the screen was saying my temp was good around 110 120 so i decided just to drive it home 15 miles the light stopped flashing halfway there temp gauge went all the way down to cold check gauge light came off so i took it out of tow haul then turned it back on did it again till i got home let it sit and it went back to normal again a buddy of mine had a 2004 6.0 with 130,000 hard miles and his did the same thing his tranny went out a week ltr but his wouldnt shift into O/D and shifted rough mine shifts smooth and goes into O/D just fine anyone know what might be wrong i hope not the tranny cuz i rely on this truck to make a living and i cant afford a tranny

The first thing I would do is pull the tuner and drive it under the same conditions for the same amount of time to see if it still does it.
If it suddenly jumps from normal to max it is most likely the TFT sensor.
It is somewhat common. I have also seen the internal harness do this but that is more Rare.

Well another symptom I failed to mention was sometimes it will shift hard and sometimes not even go into over drive then the rest of the time it shifts normally

I would still get rid of the bully dog. Get yourself an SCT with custom tunes
Bully Dog, Superchips, edge, none of them tune your tranny to hold the extra power.
Plus their is no comparision to a custom tune.
