2004 6.0 auto only has 1st and 2nd

Hey guys,

Went through some deep mud the other day and got stuck. Had it in 4 wheel drive and somewhere along the way the 4wd light got stuck on and when I got towed out, I realized I only had the first two gears. But it did come out of 4wd. The truck drives fine when going down the road in 2 gear though. Also the trans shifts a little harder now and when you come to a stop it acts up, almost as if it is skipping/spuddering... any ideas? Is this fords type of limp mode or something very wrong? Thanks for any help.

is the 4x4 switch a electronic or manual switch? could possibly be still in 4x4 even if lisht is out. that will make tranny shift harder
