Heres a brain buster for you guys!!!!

Ok i was leaving a stop light today and i was not dogging my truck just driving normaly and between the 3rd to 4th shift the truck cut off and i pulled to the side of the road!!! I went to start it back and it started no problem but when i went to put it back in gear and nothing happend it was as if i had still left it in park!! I checked the shift cable it was fine and i also cycled the 4wd still with no success!! What could it be???
