6.0 trannie tow light and check gauge light on

Just came back from a turkey hunt trip about 400 miles round trip. I was pulling a very light popup trailer and some hunting gear in the bed of the truck. I noticed that my check gauge light went on and my trans temp guage went to cold and my tow light keeps flashing midtrip. That was Thursday. Friday morning it started up fine and everything was ok at first but once the trans temp gauge got up to temp I started driving some of the back roads and the same thing happened again. The trans gauge went from being in the middle to cold and the check guage light went on and the tow light was blinking. So I called the trip early and came home today. I checked the trans fuild and it doesn't look like a bright atf red color but it doesn't really smell burnt either. I stopped at an autoparts store when I was hunting and they told me the torque shift trans has to use a mercon sp fluid only. They didn't have any so I couldn't buy none. Looks like ill be taking it to the dealer next week to have it checked out. The truck has about 173000 miles. Just thought you guys might have any ideas. SH!!!T>

I think I found the answer on this site. Looks like I may need a trans temp sensor and filter and new trans fluid.

Hope this isn't like the flashing OD light on a 4R100/E4OD

Yes the filter, sensor and fluid did the trick. I haven't had a problem since but I haven't towed anything since either. Ill be towing my tt at the end of the month to willow springs lake from phoenix. That will be the real test.
