Ok I am bad. I finally found a manual for my 2005 f250 45k miles and after reading this forum for the last few months I decided to change my tranny filters and use amsoil. I pulled the pan ok and proceded to the cannister filter. I worked on it gently for a while but could only get it to move a turn. So I tried a little harder and then broke the bottom off of it. Any suggestions on how to get it off? Should I pull the whole unit and stick it on a bench? Or just take it in to someone? I live in Phoenix AZ but am going out of town far a week. Thanks for your help.

The filter he's refering to is an external canister filter that looks like a roll of toilet paper when you take it out. The in pan filter is nothing but a screen of sorts and only removes chunks if you have a major failure. Ford has lately started adding an internal screen around the solenoids to help with the fine particles that get in the solenoids and cause shifting/failure issues but it's like $185.
