Trans Temp sensor
Hi
I am pretty sure I have a trans temp sensor that is shot. Once trans is up to normal temperatures (few minutes of driving), it shoots down to off location at 0 and check gauge comes on and tow/haul flashes. I am correct to assume the sensor is gone bad right? Now, since this has happened I am having an odd problem of once and a while the truck will not restart when HOT. As in shut off for 10 minutes after being run for an hour. Upon attempted restart, the gauges come up, with a check gauge light on. Turn key to "start" and nothing. Gauges shut down like truck wants to start but nothing. If I cycle it a few times (say 10) it will fire right back up like nothings the matter. It will how ever be in tow/haul mode, or maybe cold strategy when it starts up. Does this relate back to the temp sensor sending a code? Truck will shift strongly and rough 1st-4th and once up to 3000rpm will shift out of tow/haul (or cold strategy?) and run normally. All other gauges read normal. Suggestions? Going to the stealership tomorrow for the trans temp sensor and will ask around. Kyle |

I do not have part number. Took it into ford as I just didnt have the time to dedicate to do it myself. They replaced the sensor, and fluid change and everythings been fine since. I think if memory serves me best the sensor was about 90$

Just finished the fix today. I thought I would post the part numbers:
3C3Z-7H141-AA TFT sensor ($63.99), they are listed at 79.00, but my dealer came down in price to meet the internet prices. You can get them on ebay for $45, but I did not want to wait. FT-144 Transmission filter (About $25) FT-145 Inline transmission filter (About $25) 8 quarts of Mercon SP trans fluid ($64....ouch) Took about 2.5 hours including my fuel filter which I replaced. Here is a nice video, but he did not replace the TFT. http://www.powerstrokehelp.com/6lite...trans/1of1.asp Remember, when removing the TFT, turn it counter clockwise and pull, get ready for about 1/2 quart of trans fluid to spill out. Do the opposite on install. No issues and no flashing lights, at least on my dash. ![]() All together, about $200. The dealer quoted me close to $400 without the fuel filters. Transmission Temp Sensor
I took it to my local trusted Auto transmission shop. The part was less than a $100, they changed out the filter and the fluid and replaced the sensor for $269. That's not worth me messing with it.
When that gauge shoots up, mine started shifting a little harder between gears and didn't want to go into overdrive, but working great now. |

That dude is awesome. If I ever need to do my headgaskets, or should i say WHEN I need to do my headgaskets, he is probably going to get the job. He quoted me 4500 for....
ARP studs. Black onyx gaskets, EGR delete. SCT X3 tuner with tunes. and a couple of other things. He is only 4 hours from me. Probably what I'll be doing with next years tax return. |
