Tranny downshift when towing

I've noticed when in tow/haul mode when the truck is at slower speeds it downshifts more agressively almost like a jake brake.

Is this in the stock ford programing?

Yes, but instead of a "jake brake" it's more of an Engine brake.

If you want MORE braking while towing (which is a good thing) look at BD's exhaust brake - you'll have the trans, turbo, your trailer brakes, and your brakes helping to slow you down!

If you get your truck reflashed with the latest strategy, it won't be as aggressive. Mine used to downshift all the way to second gear and would slam into second when it was cold. After the reflash last week, it shifts nicer and only goes down to third gear. I have heard that with a heavy load pushing you, it will use second gear still.

I actually like the new program a little better. Tow/Haul was almost unbearable to use without the heaviest of loads. Now it plays nice without the big load.

Yea TXBroker,
I tried mine out last night, and it is pretty impressive. I had forgotten just how aggressive it is, just like a Semi- Engine Brake.....

Better than the retarder on my Mack Horse Truck... Ranger
