Help Me Slow This Beast Down............

Greetings Gentlemen,

This Ford Diesel Forum is one of the best things that's ever happened to me since I got my truck just over a year ago! I learn more here in 15 minutes than I could all day from reading magazines. As a group, I have found that we are extremely proficient at deciphering newer and more innovative ways to make our PDSs run faster, pull harder, and work more efficiently. I'd like to get a feel for what you guys are doing to slow your trucks down! Are there products available to make these trucks stop more efficiently? I'd like to purchase some new disc brake pads for the front of my 2006 F-350 4WD Dually.............I pull a 14k 5er 2-3 times a month. What would you guys suggest as a replacement disc brake pad? What kinda disc brake pads are you running after the OEM set? Are the EBC Yellowstuff pads any good for our type applications? Am I better off sticking with the Motorcraft pads.

Thanks,

Jerry

EBC's are my choice hands down, but are a little hard to find and expensive. Go to their website to get the part #'s because I've found that the vendors don't have the good pads listed and will try to sell you the lower grade if they can.

EBC pads are the best, but I think there are a little overkill for our trucks. I would go with something like Hawk pads and some good drilled/slotted rotors and stainless brake lines, along with some high-temp brake fluid like the racecar guys use. This would be the best in my opinion. Though, I hope you have some $$$ hidden away. Performance brakes are MAD expencive!

Hawk pads and Powerslot rotors is a favorite combo of ours. I spoke to SSBC yesterday and they plan on having the big calipers ready for the newer superduty's this summer. I can't wait.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I really do like the SSBC product & I've heard nothing but good things about the Hawk pads. In your opinion, will these products REALLY slow down our trucks any faster than the stock pads? I'd just like to have a general idea before I drop that kinda change on a brake system. I read on one thread where a "brake expert" said that most guys/gals who buy big brake kits are somewhat disappointed.

Your Thoughts?

Jerry

Hey Thanks for the great info.............................I was wondering if you would be so kind as to elaborate a little more as to why you think that the EBC pads a a little overkill for our trucks. You know how much fun it can be "splurging" on our trucks I don't usually mind if one product is clearly superior to the other.

Your Thoughts?

Thank You very kindly for the advice....................do you like the "yellow-stuff" pads or the "green-stuff" pads? Additionally, do you find that these pads produce as much brake dust as the OEM pads?

Greetings,

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I have to plead ignorance on this one......................would you be so kind as to tell me what a "jakebrake" is? I'm afraid that this is the first I've ever heard of such a thing

Thanks,

Jerry
